Commercial Appliance Technician

About the Job
SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Skilled Trades Sr. Ops Manager and the Director of Food & Beverage Responsible for overseeing and maintaining and repairing commercial kitchen appliances and ice machines in the successful preparation and execution of events at the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
• Analyze, trouble shoot, install, rebuild, adjust and replace appliance equipment.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of kitchen equipment.
• Order and maintain inventory of parts needed for all appliances.
• Inspect and verify the operation and safety of commercial kitchen appliances.
• Responsible for coordination and prioritizing repair tasks in order to respond in a timely manner and provide timely repairs and reduce downtime.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to this job:
• Advanced troubleshooting and repair of commercial kitchen systems is required.
• Knowledge of equipment used in kitchen, i.e. Hoods, ice machines, dish machines, gas and electric steamers, ranges, convection ovens,hot cabinets etc.
• Ability to demonstrate proper safe use of equipment to staff.
• Read and understand Health Department regulations.
• Ability to train and instruct.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and O/M manuals.
• Knowledge of refrigeration, preferred.
• Knowledge of 460 volt, AC circuit and advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to operate a computer and maintenance software.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the work place, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
• Ability to develop PM programs based on industry and manufacturer standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge in operations procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the type of events anticipated at the facility. Must possess a through understand of facility’s electrical, mechanical, HVAC and other systems.
• Demonstrate exceptional skills in customer service and effective communications with guests and employees.
• Understand and work from general instructions, specifications, blueprints, sketches and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Adhere to and enforce all laws, codes, ordinances, risk management, safety precautions and emergency procedures.
• Meet the physical demands of this job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility), lifting, carrying, moving, climbing, working from various heights, and moderate to loud noises.
• Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form.
• Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
• Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment.
• Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Course in Kitchen commercial appliance repair and preventative maintenance.
• Formal training in commercial refrigeration, preferred.
• 3 years of experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• None

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• EPA-C.F.C. approved universal certification
• Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
• Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility, in particular electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning.

COMPUTER SKILLS
• Operate a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft Office software.
• Operate standard office equipment including copier, typewriter and fax machine.

HOURS OF WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
• Travel negligible
• Available to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
